Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has released a statement denying claims that he was a sponsor of Niger Delta Avengers. A faction of the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers had released a statement over the weekend that himself and some politicians including former President Goodluck Jonathan and some others were sponsors of their activities. In a statement by his spokesman Simeon Nwakandu, Wike described the group's claim as “false media propaganda.” The statement reads;

A Nigerian suspected of being in charge of a network of internet scammers, stealing around $60m (£45m), has been arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers claim they have attacked three oil trunks in Bayelsa and Rivers state. According to a post on their website signed by their spokesperson, Mudoch Agbinibo, the group say they carried out the attack today July 8th at between 3am and 5am. “At about the (hour) of 3am to 5am the Niger Delta Avengers blow up Nembe 1, 2, and 3 trunk-line in Bayelsa/River States. We still using this medium to warn the general public of impostors Facebook accounts. Niger Delta Avenger is not in Social network anymore” the statement read
