NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS
COUNCIL OF STUDENT UNION PRESIDENTS
OSUN STATE JOINT CAMPUS COUNCIL
Communique of The Senate Sitting Held on 29 November, 2024 Held at Ede, Osun State
_29/10/2024_
The Senate Sitting was presided over by Com. Olawale Oriowo (King Sax of OscoHealth Ilesha).
Then, the motion for the commencement of the sitting was raised Com. Bamidele Quadri (Captain Black of Ossce-Ila) and seconded Com. Yekeen Roqeeb Oyewole (Miokere of FCE Iwo) around 1:35pm.
The senate sitting was based on recent developments and based on critical observations of the conduct of the current Osun State NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Executives, we, the Students’ Union Presidents of tertiary institutions across Osun State, hereby issue this communique to announce the suspension of the JCC Executives due to abuse of power and acts of impersonation.
After extensive discussions and consultations with key stakeholders, we have concluded that the actions of the JCC Executives have compromised the integrity and objectives of the student representation body. These actions are inconsistent with the values and responsibilities expected of leaders representing the interests of students across the state. In a motion moved by Comr Bamidele Quadri representing OSSCE ILA, and seconded by Comr Lateef Sodiq Adewale representing OSCOTECH Esa Oke at exactly 1:48pm that *the current JCC Executives be suspended*. Therefore, in the interest of restoring accountability, trust, and effective representation, we are compelled to take the following actions:
1. Immediate Suspension of Osun NANS JCC Executives:
Effective immediately, the current executives of the Osun State NANS JCC are hereby suspended from office due to charges of abuse of power and impersonation until the next JCC convention. This decision aligns with our commitment to uphold transparency and ethical leadership within the student movement.
The current JCC Executives undermined the constitutional power of the senators, abused the mandate given to them by the students by calling for a congress which seemingly was to hold a protest and to disrupt the peace in the state. The current JCC also released an article stating that Osun state students laid an allegation against the SSA which was far from true and the article did not represent the interest of Osun state student.
2. Appointment of the Convention Planning Committee (CPC) Chairman as Acting JCC Chairman:
To ensure continuity and effective oversight, the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee (CPC) shall assume the role of Acting JCC Chairman. The Acting Chairman is mandated to perform the duties of the office and uphold the highest standards of integrity and service until a duly elected executive team is in place.
3. Planning for the Upcoming Convention:
We wish to reassure all students that plans for the forthcoming NANS JCC Osun Convention are on course. The Acting Chairman, along with the CPC, will oversee the organization and execution of a transparent and democratic convention where eligible candidates can vie for the JCC executive positions.
This decision has been taken to ensure that the leadership of NANS Osun JCC remains accountable to the students it represents. We remain committed to fostering a culture of responsible and ethical leadership within our student organizations.
We urge all students across Osun State to remain supportive of this decision and to uphold unity as we work together to safeguard the integrity of our representation.
The motion of the adjournment of the sitting was raised by Com. Lateef Sodeek Adewale (Prudence of Oscotech, Esa-Oke) and was seconded by Com. Bamidele Quadri Olamilekan (Captain Black of Ossce-Ila).
The senate sitting was rounded off around 2:36pm
