NANS Leadership: A Betrayal of Students' Trust By Comrade Ajibade Kehinde Daniel, President, OSCOTECH Students' Union
The essence of leadership within the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is to represent the collective interests of students. Sadly, it appears that both the NANS national and zonal leaderships have lost sight of this sacred mandate. Their recent actions or lack thereof have not only sidelined the students they claim to serve but have also cast a shadow of doubt on the credibility of the association. The case of the Osun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC) is a glaring example of this betrayal. After a fair and transparent decision made by the majority of institutions, the leadership of Solomon Ayobami Abel was collectively endorsed by the students. This decision reflected the trust and confidence reposed in him by a wide spectrum of stakeholders. However, certain individuals within the NANS structure are working tirelessly to overturn this popular mandate, thereby undermining the sanctity of the association and its democratic processes.
